Heavy digestion: the time-honoured infusions
The after-meal tisane isn't a trend: it's the world's oldest digestive pharmacy. But not all infusions do the same job. Depending on what you feel after eating — wind, bloating, acidity or that 'I can't move' heaviness — a different plant will suit you. A quick counter guide.
Wind and bloating: fennel and anise
If the problem is a swollen belly and wind, carminative seeds are the answer: fennel and anise, lightly crushed and infused for 8 minutes after meals. They're the base of the classic 'four-seed tea', and the traditional infusion of nursing mothers.
Heaviness and rich meals: boldo
After a rich celebration meal, it's the liver that needs help. Boldo stimulates bile and eases fat digestion: a short infusion, 3 to 5 minutes, as the taste strengthens quickly. If you need it often, it may be time for a course of milk thistle or artichoke leaf.
The everyday after-meal cup: chamomile, mint and lemon verbena
For everyday use, the Mediterranean trio never fails: chamomile to settle the stomach, mint to refresh and lighten, and lemon verbena for its fine lemon aroma that soothes and relaxes. Mix them freely, add a little honey — it's the tisane that suits almost everything and pleases almost everyone.
