An American climber with a spectacular flower, passionflower is one of the most studied calming plants. Its flavonoids and mild alkaloids promote deeper, more continuous sleep, which is why it's especially recommended when the problem isn't falling asleep but staying asleep. Unlike many sedatives, it isn't habit-forming.
