Lavender fields have perfumed the Mediterranean since the Romans, who added it to their bathwater ('lavare'). The linalool in its essential oil has a proven calming effect: a few drops on the pillow or an evening infusion of the flowers soothes the nervous system and eases sleep. Externally it's also antiseptic and healing.
