Its name comes from the Latin 'salvare', to save, and the medieval saying drove it home: 'why should a man die who has sage in his garden?'. Legend aside, sage is a good digestive and one of the most-used traditional remedies for menopausal hot flushes, thanks to its sweat-regulating action.
